Google is testing a new feature in the Chrome browser that aims to enable website owners to earn money through user payments. This feature rewards site owners for providing useful content by allowing users to send small payments as a token of appreciation.

Many website owners rely on advertisements or subscriptions to generate revenue, which often proves insufficient, leading to frustration and content quality decline.

Website owners can add an income generation feature by using the HTML element “rel=monetization,” allowing sites to receive payments. The feature includes two payment types: small payments where users can tip as a token of thanks without large amounts, and automatic payments without user interaction, providing a seamless browsing experience.

Web Monetization is currently in development and aims to become a global standard once fully implemented. This initiative encourages high-quality content production, compensating creators for their efforts.
